Seminar ContentsClick here if you'd prefer this information in bullet point format. As you read the information below, you will become aware of just how powerful the content of the program is, and how it will enable you to become an interesting, entertaining and memorable speaker. Each section on its own is worth its weight in gold, but as you combine them you will be amazed at how rapidly you progress towards your goals. PREPARATION Almost all of the speakers I spoke to told me that thorough preparation was the most important contribution to their success, yet most people don't do nearly enough of it. Cast your mind back on how many times you have seen people attempt to 'wing it' and then crash and burn. You can NEVER over-prepare. You'll learn what you should do days in advance of your talk, the night before it happens (for many, often as stressful as the talk itself!) and also five minutes before you get 'on your feet'. Picture being able to 'take the stage' secure in the knowledge that you are prepared for any eventuality . Other things you'll learn are the importance of having a clear objective in mind (i.e. what exactly are you trying to achieve? Sell something? Obtain commitment? Agree a course of action? Inform? Educate? Entertain?), and how to create a CAB (Clear Audience Benefit) so that the audience know right from the start why they should be listening to you. LOGICAL FLOW You'll learn how to structure your talk so that it is logical and easy to follow. Imagine being able to draw your audience irresistibly towards a conclusion that culminates in the achievement of your objective. A skill which has largely been lost nowadays is that of rhetoric, sometimes defined as the 'art pf persuasion'. We'll look at its 2,000-year old secrets, and how you can carefully select the words and phrases you use in order to burn your message into your audience's brains, making it (and you) impossible to forget! As you think how useful such a skill would be if you have to make presentations as a pitch for new business, you will realise that this alone will be worth the cost of the seminar. OPENING Research has shown that the first 90 seconds are key to getting your audience's attention. Yet if you think about it now, 99% of speakers waste most of that time with boring, instantly forgettable, mundane rubbish such as greeting the audience, thanking them or apologising for being nervous (a cardinal sin in my book - I know people do it to gain sympathy, but it screams LOSER!). As you think about this, picture how great it would feel to be able to open confidently in a way that yells 'professional' and grabs the audience by the throat right from the start, giving them a compelling reason to pay attention and listen to you for the rest of your talk. I'll teach you 5 different ways to do it . DELIVERY You'll discover the importance of movement, and how it not only engages the audience's eyes as well as ears (thereby helping them absorb the information), but also exudes an air of confidence (as well as giving your nervous energy something to do). Remember - lecterns are lethal and podiums are poison and standing still is suitable only for trees and statues! We'll discuss body language, and how to use it to your advantage - posture, eye contact, hand gestures, even how you walk. We'll cover how to use your voice and improve your vocal delivery. Most people only use a fraction of their vocal range in terms of pitch, intonation, speed and volume. As you think about that now, how impressive would it be to be able to vary all of these so that your voice is not only more pleasant to listen to, but also more powerful, compelling and persuasive. While we're at it, how about how to avoid maddening mannerisms, horrible habits and catastrophic catch phrases? You don't need to be a comedian to be able to use the incredible power of humour. I'll show you the best way to inject it into your talks and how to use it to emphasise a serious point. You'll also learn why it's important to introduce it early into your talk, and even how to arrange the seating to maximise its effect. VISUAL AIDS A presentation without visual aids is a lecture. Think back on how many of those you have sat through that have been memorable - not many, are there? You'll learn how to make your aids impactful and relevant (how many slides have you seen included in a presentation simply because the speaker had it and thought she might as well use it?). You'll also learn the golden rule about visuals, i.e. you are the star of the show, not your slides - they are there to support you, not the other way around. As you begin to realise this, you'll never approach preparing slides in the same way again. If you use a lot of numbers in your presentations, we'll cover how to avoid the 'data dump', i.e. using only the numbers you need to avoid baffling the audience. CLOSE After the opening, the second most important part is the close - you may recall a number of speakers you've heard who simply drifted to a pathetic, limp-wristed halt. What would it be like if you could close with a bang so you're guaranteed to get your audience to take action? You'll also learn how to handle Q&A sessions confidently and fearlessly. OTHER You'll discover the 'Seven Deadly Sins' of public speaking and how to avoid them, and the seven key elements of a great presentation. Imagine being able to come across as an expert on your chosen subject, and how to overcome any credibility problems you might have - too young? Too old? Too attractive? CONFIDENCE For many people, this is the most important bit, for if you don't have the confidence to stand up and use them, having all the skills in the world is irrelevant. With the tips, techniques and secrets you will learn, I am convinced your speaking confidence will increase tenfold. Using proven techniques from Neuro Linguistic Programming (What is NLP?), I'll show you .
